No, Sinon didn’t die. A main character would never die, right? The two of them escaped from Death Gun’s clutches and finally told each other about their past traumas.

At the crucial moment when Death Gun was about to shoot Sinon with his Type 54 pistol, someone shot at Death Gun and rescued Sinon. That person was none other than our hero Kirito-kun who not only managed to defeat Juushi X within that short period of time, but also managed to deduce that Sinon is in trouble and arrive in time to rescue her. I’m not sure if I’m being sarcastic here but I guess more time passed than we think, from the time Kirito left Sinon till the time when she got attacked by Death Gun.

Even though Kirito managed to get Sinon out of that precarious situation she was in, they aren’t out of danger yet; Death Gun is hot on their heels, determined to kill Sinon and expose Kirito’s true identity. Kirito opted to escape on the buggy while Death Gun pursued them on the horse which is fast but harder to control. I had thought that Kirito would have chosen to ride on the horse instead, initially. Although Sinon had always appeared to be cool and collected, seeing that Type 54 seems to have unnerved her completely and transformed her into cowardly weak Shino. She wasn’t able to destroy the horse when Kirito asked her to and refused to shoot at Death Gun even though their lives were clearly in danger. I had always been an admirer of Sinon’s coolness but seeing her this weakened didn’t make me dislike her because, everybody has their weaknesses; I’m just glad that Sinon is a normal person and not an unbelievably flawless superhero character. Speaking of *cough* unbelievably flawless superhero characters, Kirito managed to get Sinon to shoot at Death Gun. Although she missed, she hit a gas tank and caused an explosion, which was all they need to escape from the pursuer of death.

They escaped into a cave to avoid the satellite scan, but Sinon is still reeling from the fresh memories of her trauma which were awakened by seeing the Type 54. Sick of her cowardly self, Sinon decided to continue fighting Death Gun alone. But as she attempted to leave the cave, Kirito stopped her and tried to persuade her to treasure her own life more because of the other people who care for her. Cue emotional outburst from Sinon and nobody does emotional better than Sawashiro Miyuki. While other crying girls are nothing but a nuisance, Sawashiro is one of the few female seiyuus who can play a crying female who gets my eyes moist. After she calmed down, tired from all the crying and yelling at Kirito, she confided in him about what happened when she was eleven years old and Kirito, in turn, told her about what he did in SAO. They might have learned a lot more about each oher but that was nothing new to us.

However, we did learn about an ability of Death Gun, “Metamaterial optic-distortion camouflage”. Basically, he has an ability for him to turn invisible and unlike what I’ve speculated, it wasn’t something as complicated as Death Gun being an entity beyond the game’s control. From now on, since Sinon and Kirito have gained a certain amount of trust in each other, they’re definitely going to be fighting more like a team against Death Gun. I can’t really tell what’s upcoming from this week’s episode but I’m sure we’re getting more action and almost surely another cliffhanger ending. Bring it on!
