As the Yuris get ready for their face off with each other, things get a little intense – both on and off ice.

Since Viktor’s announcement of their competition routine choices in the last episodes, the Yuris have trying various means to get themselves in the zone for their challenging routines – from the usual physical training, to meditating under a waterfall and to subjecting themselves to watching Viktor eat delicious meals. Yuri has sort of gotten his eros figured out and unsurprisingly, the only form of eros he could conjure within his mind was linked to his passion for pork cutlet rice. Watching this sure made me have a craving for tonkatsu-don! While Yuri has been getting steadily approving nods from Viktor, Yurio hasn’t quite get his agape yet. To be honest, I personally feel that agape is much harder than eros for your average person to grasp, in this modern context. But one day under the waterfall, something clicked within Yurio and he shocked Yuri and Viktor during his next practice session, by giving off a totally different aura from before. The only person who could make Yurio feel some unconditional love was his grandfather and I really wonder what jii-chan is doing now and if that has anything to do with Yuri’s hardened exterior self.

After all that training, the day is finally here. The atmosphere in the preparation room was as tense as it could be, but I couldn’t help but feel that the situation seemed rather out of place in that rather plain and run-down looking locker room. Both Yuris have picked their costumes from a heap of Viktor’s old costumes and they were really flashy – but suitably so in the figure skater style. Yurio went first and his performance was impeccable, at least from my eyes. I love watching them zoom across the ice effortlessly, jump up, float for a while before landing gracefully with such poise. The only sign which signaled any flaw in Yurio’s performance, was the fact that he couldn’t contain his yearning for this performance to end.

After watching such a stunning performance put up by his competitor, Yuri was getting a little nervous but that didn’t stop him from giving it his all. I absolutely loved his attitude during the routine and the show he put up! Looks like all the hard work, including his last minute visit to Minako-sensei’s studio paid off. Our virgin Yuri pulled off the charming routine to perfection (despite missing a landing) and he was clearly the winner. I felt a little sorry for Yurio who left halfway during Yuri’s routine, probably because he couldn’t stand defeat, but Viktor belongs to Yuri and this was something which has been decided since before production so… find your own guy Yurio. It might have been because of that, that the whole competition just felt a little rigged – like some publicity stunt for Viktor or for Hasetsu’s tourism industry.

With the competition down, it’s been decided and officially acknowledged that Viktor would be Yuri’s coach! It feels like this is where things really get started so buckle up and sit tight for this ride full of beautiful men, breathtaking figure skating and hilarious scenes.
