Finding Hen’s Teeth – 盲亀の浮木
I guess Usagi’s greatest enemy isn’t Toudou, but… Ijuuin-sensei?!
The Fukuoka trip was a little different from what I imagined it to be, I had the image of an onsen trip somehow and this was nothing more than a manga fan’s pilgrimage to an autograph session. With all the tension in the previous two episodes, this light-hearted episode was a refreshing change. The Usami trio followed Misaki to Fukuoka, but went off for sightseeing while the two fanboys attended the autograph session. Usami was being his usual jealous self, warning Misaki not to let his guard down around Toudou before he was ushered off for sightseeing with his cousins.
Unfortunately, what appeared to be a Toudou-focused episode abruptly changed its course the very moment Kyo Ijuuin sensei made his appearance. Ijuuin-sensei was actually one of the coolest guys you’ll ever see walking around in an anime world and… why am I surprised? Given the fact that the autograph line was full of girls, it should have been quite obvious from the start that sensei was no normal man. I loved Toudou and Misaki’s reactions when they met Ijuuin-sensei and seriously, Da Man cookies?!?!?! What dedicated fans Toudou and Misaki are! Ijuuin-sensei’s expression changed upon seeing Misaki’s name, because he remembered Misaki from their previous meeting a few years ago. After the autograph session, Ijuuin-sensei specially went to look for Misaki to… well, we never got to know what he intended to do because Usagi appeared at the very moment when Misaki started telling sensei “I really like your…”. From his expression, Usagi was not impressed with Misaki’s choice of words or the fact that he was being so warm towards sensei. At this point, it’s very clear that Toudou is nothing more than Misaki’s fellow fanboy here.
After the polite but stiff exchange between the mangaka and novelist, Misaki made a groundbreaking discovery about Mizuki’s love interest. Mizuki was never after Usagi right from the start, he was interested in Karuoko and was merely taking out his frustrations on poor Misaki. Now, that guy looks much cuter all of the sudden. After returning home from Fukuoka, there was a minor confrontation between Usagi and Misaki, where we got to see the extreme tsun side of Misaki struggling to tell Usagi that “he’s special”. Although it is rather entertaining, it can also get rather old sometimes and, although I don’t like ukes to be too easy-going when it comes to accepting someone’s advances, I can’t help pitying Usagi by now.
The next day, Misaki was tasked to collect manuscripts from Ijuuin-sensei’s house. He collected the manuscripts, got invited to bring Toudou over another day, and nothing else happened to my surprise. I guess the exciting stuff will be happening during Misaki’s next or next next visit to sensei’s house. Mizuki and Kaoruko finally leaves for New York and Paris respectively, with everyone on slightly friendlier terms with each other.
Next up, more on Ijuuin-sensei (I hope) and Misaki’s job application to Marukawa. Doesn’t applying there mean that he might get more chances to work alongside Ijuuin? Guess we won’t really know until the next episodes. On a side note, when is Nowaki going to appear??
