心重ねる – Hearts Come Together
From despairing about not being able to hear his playing, to wishing the sound of the notes would go away because they tampered with his concentration, Kousei sure has changed drastically.
I am confused as to how Kousei’s forceful playing helped Nagi shine. Was it because she did not falter despite the pressure he put on her? Was it because she managed to keep up? Somehow, Nagi evolved into a new and improved pianist after this duet. Whatever it is, I am relieved to see that they delivered a fine performance.
One person who was not so relieved to see them playing together was big brother Takeshi. Kaji Yuuki returns at his bratty best, and it was gold~ the interaction between Takeshi and Kousei sure was amusing and the timely comedic moments (courtesy of the misunderstanding between the Aiza siblings) provided that much needed laugh after the heaviness that was the past few episodes. After this episode, it was clear what Nagi’s role in the grand scheme of things is. I have very much come to appreciate this feisty little girl. She really is quite the sweetheart (an extremely late acknowledgment, but Kayano Ai, you are all kinds of amazing), and it is adorable to see her enjoying playing the piano so much. From calling herself the phantom to now recognising her abilities and dubbing herself Christine, she has certainly shown an extensive amount of growth in the span of just three episodes! And that isn’t the end of it. Not only has she helped Kousei realise how thrilling music can be, she has also helped her brother get the spring back in his step. That’s right fellow KimiUso viewers, the stage has been set for the showdown between Takeshi and Kousei. The Eastern Japan Piano Competition in December, excites~
On a separate note, we finally have our answer: Kousei has decided that he is not going “commit double suicide” with Kaori. He can’t really, because he doesn’t see himself as her equal. He still looks up to her – she is always in front of him and he is chasing from behind her. This is quite the prevailing occurrence in this series, with Nagi chasing Takeshi, Takeshi chasing Kousei and Kousei chasing Kaori. Sappy as it can get at times, it is lovely to see these musicians playing for the sake of someone. And cliché as it may be, it is because there is that someone that they are spurred to push themselves to greater heights. Kousei wants to stand next to her. And now that he has asked for her to perform with him once again, and she has admitted to dreaming of waltzing with him one day, will they get another chance??
