The False… Spiritual Virgin (Mori Summer) 「偽りの…精霊聖母(モリサマー)」
Who knew chuunibyou could be used to deal with one’s past in a moment of identity theft and crisis? Nibutani faces the dilemna over whether or not she should defend her embarrassing mori summer past. It all boils down to just how much does Dekomori mean to her?
Yay! The focus shifts this episode to Nibutani and Dekomori, the senpai-kouhai combi who’s constantly bickering because Dekomori refuses to admit that Nibutani was her once idolised Mori Summer-sama. Nibutani once suffered from a massive case of chuunibyou in which her alter ego Mori Summer was created. Mori Summer had quite the detailed website filled with an expansive fairy world of spirits and magic, to which Dekomori was a fanatic. So like the Dark Flame Master, as Mori Summer graduated to high school and gradually lost her powers, Nibutani eventually shut the website down and threw away most traces proving her deep dark past existence secret.
Except Dekomori now has a fanatic of her own in the form of real fake Mori Summer Tokugawa Natsumi (Koshimizu Ami). We don’t see how Tokugawa came to fall head over heels with innocent and pure Dekomori but that doesn’t matter, all we need to know to prove she’s a scary stalker is how she creepily takes close up pictures of said innocent and pure Dekomori. I’ve always liked Dekomori and her ‘de-su’/’death’ with her weighted twin tails and academic prowess. So I can see how moe this kouhai is to instil affection even from females to want to protect the little rich girl. Dekomori and Nibutani’s constant attack offense and defense tsukomi never gets old in adding some slice-of-life antics to enrich the chuunibyou bunch. As with every odd couple, they may be constantly bickering but really that’s just their way of showing that they care about each other, which is probably why Nibutani forces milk down Dekomori’s throat all the time right?
So it’s obvious that Dekomori’s in peril being kabe-don-ed (wall slammed) by Tokugawa. Nibutani struggles with the internal conflict of proving she is the real Mori Summer or really letting go of her past. She has no qualms letting go but that means letting go of Dekomori at the same time which as much as she hates to admit it, she doesn’t want to. The kouhai’s as much a part of the eastern magic napping club especially now that they’re in high school together so Nibutani faces her chuunibyou demons, reprises her rightful place as the real Mori Summer to battle it out with the real fake Mori Summer. It’s nice to see how eventually, Dekomori comes to the rescue of Nibutani and not the real Mori Summer reprised. That’s a true friendship there. It’ll be interesting to see how they continue now that the fairies’ out of the bag over the truth of Mori Summer-sama. Will Rikka still retain her loyal subject? Or will Dekomori continue to insist Nibutani’s a fake and harrass her senpai out of affection? Either way, it’s interesting from a psychological perspective how chuunibyou is used as a vehicle in human relations yet again, this time in friendship.
