大人ドロップアウトでコスプレイ – Adult Dropout Cosplay
It is definitely difficult to top the high level of comedy that the previous episode presented us. In what was probably the best episode of Gugure! yet, hilarity relinquished all sense of reason, with the humour hitting it in all the right places. However, in spite of the riot that was the previous episode, this episode of Gugure! was by no means overshadowed. What we got this episode was not the comedy gold trolling of the previous episode, but silly slapstick humour which just totally brought on the giggles.
The source of comedy in this episode stemmed from Kokkuri-san spending a bomb on some super super anti-ageing fountain of youth formula (oh beauty at a hefty price, heh). Sure, he did write “do not drink” on the bottle, but when does that ever work? When someone says not to do something, the very first instinct is to want to do that said something – it’s human spirit psyche 101. So of course when Inugami found the bottle containing said formula, she drank it. What happened next was a poof, some smoke, and there emerged baby Inugami. As if that wasn’t bad enough, Shigaraki strolled into the kitchen, revealing that he too had had a forbidden sip of the formula. Seeing those two turned while Kokkuri-san remained unaffected, I really was led into thinking that he was indeed THAT old. Lol, props to Kohina for having the guts to voice it out. But as it turned out, Kokkuri-san hadn’t had it. Yet…
So what were Kokkuri-san and Kohina to do with two children running around the house? Since dropping them off at a pet shop / giving them to the zoo didn’t seem feasible, Kokkuri-san had no other choice but to raise them. Expectedly, no one was more averse to the idea of toddlers than Kohina, who was so traumatised that she isolated herself on top of a cupboard (come on Kohina, even if it is to prevent them from eating your eyes (and even though Inugami did swallow one of them – I wonder if Kohina managed to see the insides of his intestines, lol), surely that’s overreacting!). And so, Kokkuri-san single-handedly took care of the household, the children and every other thing. Of course, all that added work made for a very knackered Kokkuri-san, who decided that he might as well turn into a child as well.
Yes, this episode saw the physical transformations of our three main spirits into children. And while that in itself is already such a laugh, it only got crazier as we see these adult, very adult, spirits try (and yet fail so massively and amusingly) at handling the situation. I mean, if Kohina had to call in creepy and deranged Tama to help with the babysitting, surely the situation’s dire.
I have to say though, Kokkuri-san did well considering what a pain Inugami and Shigaraki were. This has been a long time coming, but after the events of this episode, I simply can’t stop myself from making a jibe at how utterly useless Inugami is. Sure baby Inugami was beyond adorable (what a way to use that baby charm Inugami, bravo), but adorableness can only get one so far. That said, while the character was completely incompetent, the same absolutely cannot be said for the seiyuu. Sakurai showed what a pro he really is, flipping back and forth between normal (uh, creepy crazy sadomasochistic Kohina obsessed) Inugami and baby Inugami. Satiated as I am with his voice this season, and as much as I would not like to admit, his prowess really makes him such a treat to listen to.
The childish effects didn’t last long, because by the end of the episode all three of them went back to their usual selves. And thank goodness, because Kohina looked like she was about to lose it – Kokkuri-san had apparently forgotten about Kohina while in his child-like state and she seemed very perturbed. See Kokkuri-san, you did get through to her, you did! The doll was questioning her feelings, feelings that she previously repeatedly denied having. It was a very touching moment between Kohina and Kokkuri-san, and served well to remind us that Kokkuri-san continues to look after Kohina because of some promise that he made (which by the way, still hasn’t been revealed. Staff-san, there’s only one episode left~~).
That’s right, this is the penultimate episode of Gugure! oh noes D: This series has come a really long way since the first episode, and I am extremely sad that it is ending. Even Kokkuri-san let out a shocked and frustrated “マジで” (majide – seriously?!) when Kohina said in the preview that the next episode would be the last. Ohwells, here’s looking forward to the next (and final) episode.
Big hugs to Komorebi and Shion, thank you both so muchly for covering the past three Gugure! reviews. Exams, travel, and unwellness make for a very absent writer, lol. But kiseki is back and ready to face a new year of blogging. And this being the first post this year, Happy Happy New Year to all at koekara! Here’s to many more review-fun times (^_−)☆
