Wake Up 「手練手管」
“Having one girl that’s special to you, that’s enough.” kyaa~ Kyouya~~ so cool~~~
Sorry for the long hiatus! Exams are over and so Akatsuki is back to cover this season’s silly romcom shoujo Ookami~ except that my return is marred by how irritated I am with playboy character Kamiya. Matsuoka Yoshitsugu does a great job voice acting the guy, so much so that as much as I like Matsuoka and hence the bias-ness, I really can’t stand Kamiya! Why does he want to drag Kyouya down with him so so much?
Actually, by the end of the episode Kamiya turned out to be quite the pitiful character. He probably wanted to drag Kyouya into his playboy world to prove that his very own existence as a playboy isn’t false. The comedy was hilarious with Sakurai Takahiro and Matsuoka going at it with those very suggestive ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ in the girls’ imaginations gone wild; how silly of Erika to actually believe the possibilities of Kyouya x Kamiya (or maybe Kamiya x Kyouya?!) I mean she’s the girlfriend for goodness’ sake! So most of this episode was Kamiya seeking every opportunity he got during the school trip to push Kyouya into unleashing his male instincts because once they’re released, Kamiya believes Kyouya will finally open his eyes and see just exactly what he’s missing!!
BS. Seriously Kamiya, it’s sad that you have 500 pretty girls’ contacts and yet not one of them can be by your side when you need someone. It’s so mean of you to say that Kyouya’s stooping to Erika’s low standards and that he can do better. How shallow are you? Ok so I didn’t think Erika’s that bad appearance-wise but that other student who’s got such an obvious crush on Kyouya, she did seem cuter and did set apart the difference in standards Kamiya was referring to… I don’t like that girl. Everyone knows Kyouya’s attached and yet she willingly went along with Kamiya’s instigation to initiate a kiss with Kyouya. Hands off someone else’s guy!
Silly Erika doesn’t help matters by egging Kamiya on towards becoming friends with Kyouya, especially since he gets just how twisted her boyfriend’s personality is. Silly silly Erika leaves the 2 guys to start a bromance while she and San-chan give them space. It’s a school excursion that you should be milking every opportunity to be with Kyouya! Speaking of San-chan, she’s my favourite character. She’s responsible, down-to-earth and best of all, immune to Kamiya’s flirtatious ways! That’s not all. She’s Erika’s one true friend, the one who’d make sure Erika doesn’t do something stupid and get into trouble unlike so-called friends Marin and Tezuka. I’ve really liked the developments in the manga for San-chan and though I know it’s unlikely to see any juicy plot lines involving her in the anime, am rooting for her to find her OTP other half.
Kyouya’s only got eyes for his one
girl pet. It’s sweet to see him tsundere up to her by changing seats and leaning onto his pillow on the bus trip back to school. They’re a couple through and through, in spite of the twisted roles they play in the relationship. Kamiya was right about them when they were flirting in front of him. That sort of straightforward banter is exactly what makes a couple a real couple, not just one all about romance and stereotypes that’s for show – the type that Kamiya is. So it’s great to see them like that and by the end of this episode, it showed Kamiya what HE’s missing out on and not Kyouya. Fingers crossed this means the guy’s woken up and is more tolerable to watch next episode!
