三日目 – The Third Day
Oh woe the bitter taste of defeat.
The day after losing the match to Aoba Johsai (who went on to lose to Shiratorizawa), our Karasuno boys are all shoulders slumped, tear streaked and depressed. Can’t say I blame them, I was only watching and golly was it saddening. Really not much went on in this final episode. It was more of a cooling off period for both the Karasuno team as well as us viewers (still reeling from episode 24, that I am). And in a way I am glad for it, because it reflects the reality of the situation. There is absolutely no way that a team that enthusiastic would be able to smile & shrug off the loss. This loss might be harsh, but the toughest losses make the strongest teams. Karasuno will learn from this, and it will get stronger.
This may have been the final episode, but it is not the end of Haikyuu!!. Of course it would not just end like that. Our freak toss & spike duo has not wow-ed the entire volleyball world yet (and we’re only at chapter 71 of the manga)! While I was a little disappointed that Haikyuu!! decided to take the conventional route (in that the team loses the Inter-High but goes for a different tournament), I guess this was the most ideal one given that the Spring Tournament is THE tournament that our Hinata boy first saw ‘the little giant’. So the stage has been set. And given that the Spring Tournament is the third years’ last tournament, it is going to be such an intense one. I can already feel the adrenaline! Karasuno may have lost the battle, but I am certain it will not lose the war.
All in all, it was a good end to a very enjoyable season, made even more a treat of a series thanks to the likes of Murase Ayumu, Ishikawa Kaito, Irino Miyu, Hosoya Yoshimasa, Okamoto Nobuhiko, Hino Satoshi, Kamiya Hiroshi, Namikawa Daisuke and Hayashi Yuu. I thoroughly enjoyed all 25 episodes of Haikyuu!! and with the promise of a second season in the near future (nothing has been confirmed as of yet, but it is only a matter of time), I am very much looking forward to the Spring tournament. A new tournament also means new characters, which in turn means new seiyuus (*^_^*)
目の前に立ちはだかる、高い高い壁。その向こうは、俺一人では決して見ることもできない。それが、頂の景色 – A tall wall stands in front of me. What’s beyond that is something that I would never be able to see on my own. That is the view from the top. With the track 頂の景色 from the Bonus CD Vol. 1 OST playing in the background, this ending scene was so hopeful, uplifting and inspiring, it gave me chills! It is lovely to see how our dynamic duo has progressed from the bickering boys that we saw in the first couple of episodes. They sure have come a long way in such a short amount of time. Can’t wait for the freak toss & spike combination to return, stronger than before.
*Sports challenge and 2-cour challenge, done and done! Kiseki has had lots of fun covering Haikyuu!!. Thank you for reading, and till the Spring tournament~
