The penultimate episode of Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun gives us fun with Chiyo and Nozaki and a slumber party with the boys!

This was such an awesome episode for so many reasons, but the one that stands out the most is the abundance of parody and the silliness of the Gekkan boys. The first half of the episode begins with a little experiment by Nozaki, who wants to bring a little more excitement and surprise into his manga. Chiyo just so happens to be the unfortunate subject and so begins a series of actual pranks that Nozaki pulls on her, in order to gauge her reaction and incorporate them into his manga.

So it goes from him surprising her by pretending to be her chair, and getting her to sit on her back, which highly disturbs her in the worst of ways. Like, seriously, Nozaki, there’s chivalry and then there’s creepy. I think the funniest was the rice surprise, where he brings her a bento and her surprise quickly turns into shock when she opens it to find it full of white rice…until she pushes some of it back and finds curry underneath! SHOCKER. She’s suitably pleased and bashful about the whole thing but her reaction to Nozaki’s thoughtfulness when she tells herself to hang in there and not be fooled by it as she was in the past was hilarious. She just gets cuter and cuter! Reeling from all the surprises that day, she’s understandably wary when he offers to walk her home, only to tell her at the end that that was all he wanted to do, leaving her bereft at having wasted such an opportunity. Well, it was his own fault, so there there, Chiyo-chan.

The second half was the boy’s slumber party, and I love how Hori, Mikorin and Wakamatsu just turned up at his place, dripping wet from the rain and looking for a place to stay for the night. It was even funnier because none of them want the other to know that they help Nozaki with his manga, but keep slipping up and revealing their plethora of manga knowledge. Hori seems to be the most down-to-earth of the bunch and just watches sagely while Nozaki takes notes on the boys’ reactions for his next manga plot.

While Mikorin is initially literally blinded by Wakamatsu’s bright, happy and earnest personality, he soon warms up to him when Wakamatsu comments on how cool his senpai is. How adorable are these two?? I could not stop smiling at the dynamic between the three boys and how they really are such boys. There was even a moment between the three where they were discussing girls, and both Hori and Mikorin immediately thought of Chiyo and her adorable crush on Nozaki. While they’d intended to ask him how he felt about her, it was all in vain as he’d fallen asleep, much to their irritation, and unfortunately for Nozaki, all the juicy material and little boys’ fights came after that and carried on well into the morning. I really wish we could have gotten more episodes like these, with all the characters together, interacting with one another, just to see the shenanigans they’d get up to. I love those kinds of episodes because it really makes use of every single character and group dynamics are my favourite kind of dynamic. Also, with a comedy-parody like this, I could only imagine the amount of silliness that would ensue.

A definite A+ episode for me, with so much hilarity and adorableness and I wish there was more!
