Illusory Bullet – 幻の銃弾
There was more talking and less action than what I had hoped for, but the pace picked up towards the end of the episode aaaand cliffhanger!
While I thought that we would delve straight into the action in this episode, we had more of the talking between Kirito and Sinon. Kirito realises how impossible it would be for Death Gun’s partner to move from Pale Rider’s house to Sinon’s house within a mere 30 minutes and they conclude that he might have more than one accomplice standing by, ready to kill off the unconscious players. Since I just watched Ghoul’s ending and am still reeling from the effects of it, you can imagine me tapping my fingers impatiently during the initial bit of this episode, willing for the plot to move just a bit faster. Kirito might have heard my impatient tongue-clicking, because he put their plan in action soon after.
It might be just me, but standing out in the open with your eyes closed doesn’t look natural one bit and it totally spells “I’m the bait, come and get me”. Never mind that, Dark Wind and Death Gun both fell for Kirito’s plan and engaged in battle. Kirito manages to sense Dark Wind’s approach, and more importantly, he sensed Death Gun’s killing intent and dodged the deadly bullet which would have killed him (in-game) if he had been shot. Looks like Kirito’s senses didn’t let him down, even in GGO. Sinon didn’t let us down either, under much pressure from having to save her own life with just one shot, she did well to hit Dark Wind on her first try. Kirito wasted no time in closing down on Death Gun and I naively thought that once Kirito gets within melee range of Death Gun, it would become Kirito’s win automatically. I mean, he is very skilled at swordsmanship. After Sinon and Death Gun destroyed each other’s assault rifles, Death Gun drew out a sword to face Kirito.
Although everything had gone according to plan so far, the major turning point was yet to come. During the first moment when Kirito and Death Gun swing their swords at each other, it became rather clear that Death Gun had the upper hand. It might be his better sword, or the fact that Kirito “breathed in too much of the polluted outside air”, it definitely looks like things won’t be easy for Kirito. What really shook Kirito up, was when Death Gun told him that he will never remember Death Gun’s SAO character name, because he never knew it in the first place. Cues flashback to the scene where Death Gun’s SAO character was being arrested. Kirito had told him that he isn’t interested to know his name, because they won’t meet ever again. Argh, Kirito, it might have sounded cool back then but! Being too arrogant just doesn’t pay off some times. Also, it appears that Death Gun’s way of killing people wasn’t as Kirito and Sinon had speculated. Does this mean that Kirito might be in danger?
So now, how will he get out of this mess?
