This week’s Love Stage!! went back to its usual standards, it was funny and cute to downright hilarious at times and we got the long awaited progression in plot.

After his successful debut, Izumi starts to coop himself up in his room again and this time, the cause was Ryouma. He is definitely falling for our Seme Boyfriend of the Year and has been purchasing Ryouma merchandise in bulk. Although it is clear to everyone that he IS starting to like Ryouma in the romantic sense (just look at the Ryouma merchandise sprawled all over the floor and the limited edition shirt that he’s wearing), dear Izumi is still deep in denial about his feelings. Now that he’s finally become more matured, Izumi’s cuteness and charm is starting to make me fall in love with him again. He certainly might have been confused about how he was feeling about Ryouma at first, but after seeing Ryouma lying helplessly on a hospital bed, hooked onto IV drip, something in Izumi must have finally changed and his online purchasing activities doubled – in the direction of BL manga. It was really amusing to see how seriously Izumi was about the feelings that he has come to realise and how he studied it in true otake fashion – by reading manga in bulk. His hilarious exchange with Rei was well-adapted from the manga and I think the anime upped the manga in this one, with the exaggerated reactions and comments. It’s funny how Izumi is worrying about such advanced things when his “relationship” with Ryouma is still at such a preliminary stage. Just when we thought that Izumi is finally taking the initiative to visit Ryouma, who has just been released from hospital, it turns out that he is heading for the Summer Doujinshi Festival; the otaku force is strong in this one. Rei’s reaction was exactly how I reacted and I just love that scene so much. Seems like love isn’t going to change our Izumi that much, yet. However, it’s comforting to see how much Izumi has matured over the season; he doesn’t intend to run away from Ryouma anymore but he just believes that he shouldn’t appear in front of Ryouma before finding an answer within himself. Oh Izumi…

On the other hand, we got to see Seme Boyfriend’s more childish side, when Ryouma realises that he wont be able to monopolise Izumi after everyone finds out how cute Izumi is. His silent resolve not to introduce Izumi to the cast was so awww because, isn’t it just so adorable that he’s turning slightly bratty over Izumi? But things never go the way he wants them to, and Izumi shows up at his filming location. The cute newcomer gets a lot of attention from the other actors and actresses, prompting jealous Ryouma to drag him off in a huff. Just when I thought we would get another kiss scene and possibly more *cough* fluffy or sparkly scenes, Ryouma fainted from exhaustion. Damn it.

We got a good episode of all my favourite characters (there’s only 3 of them anyway) and even Rei got his scenes this week. He must have appeared too kind and caring during the previous episodes, because I had forgotten about how scheming this manager can be until this week, when he told Izumi that “Ryouma is a good person”because he’s a fan-favourite. And of course, Izumi happily believed in Rei’s words. Not that what Rei said isn’t the truth, but you can’t always take what this scheming manager says at face value.

In general, it was a good episode which gave us the laughs and brought us one step closer to seeing Izumi together with Ryouma.
