We’re seeing a sudden increase of “there but not quite there” fan-service this episode, but since it features my favourite character of DRAMAtical Murder, I’m not really complaining.
With the invitation he got, Noiz got into Platinum Jail and wasted no time in getting his hands on Ren, the Allmate he has always been interested in since the Rhyme battle with Aoba. It was nice to see Aoba getting emotional about his Allmate, worrying about it as though it was really his pet or friend. In his haste to get Ren back, he accidentally injures Noiz with a screwdriver (don’t ask me how that happened), causing Noiz to bleed quite a lot. Kind-hearted Aoba just couldn’t leave Noiz alone after seeing that terrible wound, so we got our first fan-service moment of Aoba tending to Noiz’s wound. Aoba then receives another update to the game application, but not much emphasis was placed on it. I guess we will be reminded about this plot development in time. Toue unveils his plans of awakening Aoba’s powers in a brief conversation with himself.
Aoba finds out from Ren that Noiz wasn’t up to anything bad – all he did was to give Ren an overhaul and get rid of some virus in the Allmate, not that anyone seriously believed that Noiz was doing something underhandedly to sabotage Aoba. Fan-service moment no. 2 coming up, when Aoba tends to Noiz’s wounds again. During the moment when they looked like they were about to kiss, Noiz suddenly went out of the house to get some food because he was hungry. That change in scenes felt very very awkward because it just didn’t flow smoothly. But that’s just my opinion.
After a short date, which was probably DRAMAtical Murder’s version of a “first date at the amusement park”, the two of them got ambushed by a group of Morphine-controlled punks. With Scrap, Aoba managed to stop all of them and saved Noiz from getting himself injured further. We then find out that Noiz doesn’t have a good sense of touch, in other words, his nervous system isn’t working properly. That explains his lack of concern for himself when he was bleeding all over the place earlier on, and when his head is gushing blood from the Morphine attack. Just when we thought the danger has passed, Noiz gets lured away by a masked stranger who hypnotises him and places him under the same “spell” that those Morphine people were under. No worries, this isn’t the first time Aoba is dealing with a mind-controlled friend. He soon got into Noiz’s head and starts the process of rescuing his dear friend.
Just like Koujaku, Noiz has a deep dark past that is weighing him down. When he was young, his dull sense of touch was considered a disgrace for his clan and he was abandoned by his parents. That affected him deeply and he started to feel that this world has given up on him. Trapped with these feelings of rejection, Noiz started to live alone and was isolated from the world to the extent that he only knew foods like delivery pizza and pasta. Though I don’t know how an abandoned and detached person like him got to become a leader of a Rhyme group, it would appear that he started playing Rhyme for the ability to feel pain in his head. Rhyme was the only place where he could feel like a person.
Right from the start, Grandma had told Aoba that his power exists to destroy. But Aoba had cleverly used this power to destroy the Koujaku who was bound to his past during the previous episode. This time, he destroyed the world which was trapping Noiz, freeing him and also helping him to regain his sense of touch (again, don’t ask me how that happened). Aoba is really going to be THE ONE who saves everyone from their terrible pasts and from the episode preview, my second favourite is coming up next ^^
So it’s Noiz’s turn to have his character song as the ED and we’re getting more fan-service than Koujaku’s ED. Not that I mind, teehee~
On a side note, has Koujaku been sleeping for this whole episode?!
