It is finally the relay episode. Yes, it is the relay and all about the relay! Or was it..?

Well, that was probably one of the most anticlimactic competitions, even by Free! standards. Considering how much hype was being built around the relay, it lasted for all but two minutes. And the result? Iwatobi lost to Samezuka, but still qualified for regionals. Admittedly, their loss was to be expected since Samezuka has a very strong line-up. And as mean as it might sound, Rei really is still a beginner – even though the cause for their loss this time looked to be Mako’s delay in his reaction time. However, the good thing is that Iwatobi qualified for regionals, which means that the boys will still get to swim the relay together – in the promotion of friendship and camaraderie in Free! world and all..

In other news, both Haru and Rin are getting offers from the scouts who saw them swimming. On one hand, Rin seems pretty excited about the offers he received. He even got an offer at the university that Sousuke is going to *smirks*. Oh, speaking of, these two got into a little bit of a lover’s spat this episode, with Rin accusing Sousuke for not taking the relay seriously. There has to be something going on with Sousuke.. because it is unlikely that he would not give it his all in an opportunity to beat Haru. So yes, something is definitely up. On the other hand, in true Haru fashion, Haru did not seem to care about the offers at all. He continues swimming in his own little world, without a care for anything else but freestyle, saba and the relay. Although, having said that, Haru really does care a lot for the team. So much that he devised a training menu for them to improve on their relay timings. Yay Haru~

Possibly what I enjoyed most about this episode was the preview for the next episode. With the combined efforts of Hirakawa Daisuke, Miyano Mamoru and Tsubasa Yonaga, the phrases “kiss me” and “perfect body” never sounded more amusing. Then again, Mamo-chan has proven time and again what a spaz he is, especially when he includes English in the mix (at 1:08 – 1:10).

Alrighty, even though this week’s episode of Free! kind of fell flat, at least there were muscles to cushion the fall. And there looks to be the introduction of a new character next week (oh, pretty pink hair), so here’s hoping for a better next episode.

Muscle-scope. First sign of muscles: 9 minutes 21 seconds. Flashbacks do not count lol.

  1. Haha the lovers’ spat between Rin and Sousuke was a long time coming and I just knew that it would all be about how much Rin inspired him and how much he wanted to swim with him and ‘find’ what he’s looking for. Honey, it’s right in front of you and you’re being obtuse.

I couldn’t help but feel sorry for Haru all throughout the episode with everyone bombarding him with news about scouts and potential offers, because there’s obviously a lot of building pressure beneath that cool facade. *sigh* poor dear…

But yeah, the preview was the highlight of the episode with all that ‘kiss me’ and ‘perfect body’ and can you get any more yaoi?? Obvious innuendo is obvious!
