Nothing much happens in this week’s SAO II but this nothing much would become very important for the BoB tournament, which is coming up in the next episode.

Shinkawa-kun’s confession
I’m sure he had always been the only friend Shino has but with the appearance of Kirito, Shinkawa started to feel insecure about his place in Shino’s life. It was his first time hearing Shino talk so much or even lose her cool over another person (specifically another guy) so this change is making him worry – that the possibility of his friend becoming his girlfriend is dropping. By instinct, I feel that Shino won’t ever see Shinkawa as anything more than a friend and that feeling of Shinkawa being part of the antagonist gang just grew stronger after this episode. Will he betray Shino in order to eliminate Kirito, or something? On a side note, I can’t help noticing how Spiegel’s lines in his conversation with Sinon sounds like a girl. Saying things like I’ll believe in you and I’ll be waiting for you, it wouldn’t sound strange if you switched their genders around.

Kirito’s heart-to-heart with Aki-san
Still traumatised over how he killed 3 red players in Aincrad (while he had the choice of neutralising them) and forgetting about the whole incident, Kirito confided in Aki-san. That scene had me imagining a dating game for guys, where the player enters the hospital and tada! A hot nurse offers to listen to your worries, so you’d have 3 choices: to confide in her, to lie to her or to run away. Sorry for the digression, but I thought that the scene will hold great significance for Kirito later on during the BoB and his future fights with Death Gun. Aki-san consols Kirito by telling him that he hasn’t forgotten about the whole ordeal (so he’s not a terrible cold-hearted person) and that he has every right to save the people around him and himself from the red players. I didn’t get any cool-sounding quotes from their conversation, but I believe her words had a sort of calming effect on Kirito, just like how the beautiful piano piece in the background soothed me. And with that, Kirito is all set (I hope) for BoB and Death Gun.

What’s next?
The tournament, of course, and definitely more action to look forward to.
