Well that was dramatic. The dragon’s lost its wings and is crawling around on earth and boy has he lost more than his wings.
What happened Date Masamune?!? Was it that traumatic to have lost to Ishida? Was that trauma amplified when Ishida didn’t even remember your name? Has seeing his master so bent on revenge really clouded Koutarou’s judgment? Shouldn’t you have stopped Date instead of watching on the sidelines or was this all necessary to get the now grounded and earth-crawling dragon to see the fault of his vengeful ways? Maybe that’s all a loyal servant can do since Sasuke too could only watch as the Tiger Cub (such a cute yet accurate nickname courtesy of Shingen’s friend Shimazu Yoshihiro) get beaten by Date’s cold fighting style.
Date vs Tiger cub; Ieyasu
One’s lost his passion and true-blue (literally) fired-up, mano e mano fighting spirit and the other’s half-assed in leading what’s now HIS army. We finally get to see these 2 adversaries fight but it was short-lived and definitely not as epic as in season 2. That’s to be expected I suppose, seeing as how their minds and hearts aren’t in the same place at this juncture. But it’s only episode 05 and with 65 days to Sekigahara, this bit of build up should be worth it. We see Date challenging Ieyasu at the end there in what sounds like a petty spat actually. In order to get Ishida to remember just him (sounds like a possessive boyfriend lol), the only way is by taking down the only person in Ishida’s mind right now – Ieyasu. Oh Date Masamune sama, how have you fallen so far so fast? Even Kojurou couldn’t watch. But having been taken down by Ieyasu, I’m excited to see if they’ll end up joining forces? Can Ieyasu talk some sense into Date’s revenge clouded mind?
Ieyasu’s still going around talking about building bonds. It seems he’s got Oichi in Sunpu castle though. Didn’t see that.. exposition problem there. Thought she’d go with the dark boys’ camp in Osaka too. So a not so gentle reminder from Oichi’s soldiers tells us that Ieyasu had earlier on deflected from the Oda camp before, to join hands with Hideyoshi’s campaign. And now again from Hideyoshi, Ieyasu breaks away to do his own thing. Sounds a bit fickle right? To just use-and-dump these lords like that… but then one was evil and the other was ruthless… but just what exactly is Ieyasu’s end goal? Is it to truly unify Japan? Divination sailor-moon wannabe girl saw into Ieyasu’s future and of course, left all of us viewers hanging – just what did she see?! I still don’t like her character but I do agree with her that Fuma the ninja is really cool. The way he swooped down, did his thing, drop feathers everywhere, royally ignore divination girl and just swoop back up with his master. So cool.
The dark lord and his boys aren’t sitting around idly. Otani got purple pirate and bug green to go organise forces in western Kyushu by enlisting Shimazu Yoshihiro (Ogata Kenichi), Otomo Sourin (Sugiyama Noriaki) and Kuroda Kanbei (Koyama Rikiya) over to their side. I love how simple-minded the boys are in this show. Join the Ishida side of the war? Sure, since that side’s where my friend’s Tiger Cub intends to – Shimazu Yoshihiro. I hate Otani and Ishida for putting me in these chains in the first place but since that’s the only way I’ll get the key (don’t these boys know in this sort of anime, any kind of huge-ass sword should cut through those chains…) then fine I’ll join – Kuroda Kanbei. What was Otomo going on about in those seemingly random english words though? Sunday? Amnesia? And was he referring to bug green suffering anmesia? This is Otani we’re talking about so any sort of scheming is highly possible. Now there’s another english spouting character though it’s probably historically true that the western world influenced Otomo through religion in the form of a particular Lord Xavi. But I still prefer Date Masamune’s ‘EXACTLY’ and ‘答えはNOだ’ lol. I’m not a fan of Sugiyama Noriaki but I can’t deny he does a great job in voicing the OTT dramatic character Otomo is.
Lots of build-up again this week but the picture’s slowly clearing into what the 2 sides of the Sekigahara battle will be. 65 days (7 episodes) to go!
