“There Are Times When Men Must Fight”
Ohhh dear, the boys of Gekkan really know how to work themselves up into absolute ridiculousness and, of course, Chiyo gets roped into their wild shenanigans!
Nozaki and Mikorin are playing dating games, this time, and by this point we’re all extremely disillusioned in regards to Nozaki’s romantic touch; he’s clearly got no clue how to deal with women, much less relationships. *sigh* So, with two silly boys, dating games can only be a source of entertainment for us! So it turns out that Mikorin is addicted to dating games in order to truly understand women and be able to deal with them in all situations. So of course he’s got to invite Nozaki to try his hand at it and…oh boy. First off, not only is Nozaki an absolute cheater and looked online for the best possible routes – uh, we’ve all done that with video games at least once in our lives, haven’t we? – but he also attempted to name his character after the male lead in his own manga – needles to say, Mikorin wasn’t amused. But I was, haha. So, cue an entire night of these two boys being absolute ridiculous and trying to win the hearts of their ‘crushes’ while coming up with the wildest theories about what’s really ‘behind’ the girls they’re trying to woo. It takes a while before either of them get the hang of it and so in the meantime, they’re experiencing the intense frustration of gaming that only gamers will understand. So I sympathised wholly with their sad plight. And like any good dating game, there’s always the protagonist’s best friend, who offers advice and pushes the protagonist into being a man and just getting the girl. I don’t know what dating game ever created such a detailed storyline for the side-character best friend but ‘Tomoda‘ really had his own drama going on, being strong for his friend, offering him deep and soulful advice and, at the end of three years, telling him how glad he was that he’d met him. …Does this sound like a bl manga to anyone or is it just me? And as expected, Nozaki and Mikorin came to the conclusion that all this time, while helping set up his friend with all those girls, Tomoda was really in love with his best friend, ‘Nozaki’. The sheer emotion both Nozaki and Mikorin felt for Tomoda made me laugh so hard and it was just comedy gold! Needless to say they ended up doing an all-nighter, writing a comic based on Tomoda and the main character’s love story, which is the scene Chiyo walked into when she arrived the next morning. Her reaction was priceless.
The whole dating bonanza led up to the second half of the episode, where Mikorin has been asked by his friends to attend a goukon with them so they’ve got an even number of boys and girls. Mikorin is of course all show and closet baby, so guess who he enlists to help him prepare? Oh boy. These kids never learn, do they. So, besides the fact that for some reason Nozaki has decided to wear bunny ears during their playdating, but Chiyo walks in yet again, completely unaware of what they’re doing and ultimately misreads the situation and ever since her acting class the previous week, she really transitioned into the role of cocky gangster girl really well! Haha! The best parts were of course Chiyo and Nozaki being absolutely no help and disappearing off to the bathroom to discuss Mikorin’s performance so far. But Mikorin, poor baby that he is, gets jealous for being left out and asks to be included on their brief trips to the bathroom and just…*siiiigh*, these kids make me laugh so hard! In the end it was all for nothing as Mikorin ended up getting Kashima to take his place. While his friends were initially grateful, well, guess who stole the show?
The Characters/Episode Highlights
I LOVED LOVED LOVED the Tomoda-kun! scene because Nozaki and Mikorin’s realisation that Tomoda had been in love with his best friend for so long but still supported him in all his relationships was hilarious. Not to mention the fact that they even got to that conclusion. I really love Okamoto Nobuhiko this season; he’s got so much going on and is doing so well in Kuroshitsuji, Haikyuu!! and Gekkan. He’s definitely a rising star in my books. Also, I just adore Chiyo so much because of how silly she is and like the rest of the characters, comes up with the wildest theories. She is too cute for words and I’m really enjoying all these characters in general!
Another really funny episode for me! It had everything from the laughs to the silliness to the BL suggestiveness and more. The OP is also really addicting and happifying and kind of makes me dance in my seat. I haven’t skipped it once so far! So yeah, lots to look forward to next week, as usual, and this show keeps getting better and better! I hope you’re all enjoying it equally as much!
