邂逅のストローク! – The Stroke of a Chance Meeting!
あら, what do we have here? A love triangle?
Well, it may not be a love triangle per se, but the gay vibes were definitely strong in this episode. Haru has competition, and in more ways than one *smirks* Sousuke (Hosoya yoshimasa, kyun~), aka Rin’s (Miyano Mamoru, who is really doing an excellent job as Rin this season. I’ve got to admit, he is actually more than tolerable!) child hood friend / best friend, has joined the Samezuka team and he looks to be stirring up some trouble in Haru’s own little paradise.
Fanfic delusions aside.. Now, while I care not whether Sousuke monopolises Rin all to himself, I am much more concerned with the fact that he might just be the obstacle that crushes Haru’s fragile heart (no, not in the gay sense, sheesh!). Okay, maybe a little explanation on this. Both teams (Iwatobi and Samezuka) competed in a relay as part of Iwatobi Coach’s Splash Fest event, to celebrate the return of the Iwatobi Swim Club. When the Iwatobi boys requested that Rin gather his team of four to participate, Sousuke agreed to go along but requested to swim freestyle. That request alone revealed his underlying conniving nature, because it was obvious he had a motive. There aren’t many other people in Free! world who insist on swimming freestyle simply because they have a pure and unconditional love for it like Haru does. I am EXTREMELY protective over my lovely swishy and if anyone dares hurt him, I doubt I can so readily forgive. That’s right, even if said character is voiced by the beautifully husky voiced Hosoya who is just <3
Speaking of seiyuus who are just <3, with this episode there is now yet another reason to watch Free! (right.. as if the allure of them boys stripping isn’t an entire attraction already hehehe). Suzumura Kenichi (who is also in this Summer’s Captain Earth) joins the cast as Mikoshiba Momotarou and his take on this character is fresh, young, playful and just childish boy-ness. We have to remember that Suzuken turns 40 this year. So how he manages to sound exactly like a young young high-schooler both baffles and impresses me.
Anyway, Momotarou is Samezuka’s retired captain’s younger brother, who specialises in backstroke and totally has a crush on Gou. The parallel with his older brother was so blatantly obvious, it was hilarious – they are brothers alright. Although initially only swimming with the rest of the Samezuka team because Rin pretty much forced him into it, his disappointment with having lost against Makoto spurred him to join the Samezuka team. Captain Rin has really got himself a bunch of very talented swimmers this season, and the Iwatobi team is definitely up against a really formidable opponent.
Muscle-scope. First sign of muscles: 5 minutes 8 seconds (and might I add, woaahhh *fans self*). First sign of stripping: unfortunately, not applicable.
Till the next water time~
